Electrical Engineer/Designer (Industrial Controls)

Location: Hybrid, Burlington, Ontario, Canada; willingness to travel 30–50% required.

Salary: CAD 85,000–100,000 per year, plus benefits, bonuses, and additional extra-hours payments.

What you will do

• Design, develop, analyze, and specify electrical control systems, associated hardware, safety systems, pneumatic systems, hydraulic systems, and other mechanical systems.
• Create bidding, scope, user, and system design functional specification documentation.
• Perform risk assessments, specify panel fabrication, and oversee material procurement and logistics.
• Troubleshoot electrical installations, support commissioning, and prepare commissioning summaries for client approval.
• Conduct technical surveys and inspections, prepare reports, and coordinate contractor schedules, work plans, bidding meetings, walkthroughs, permits, and site requirements.
• Monitor subcontractors for safety, quality, and budget compliance; develop budgets and construction requirements; and provide technical mentorship to less experienced designers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical education.
• 6+ years of experience in electrical control system design.
• Extensive knowledge of electrical design and its reciprocal effects on other disciplines.
• Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
• Technical literacy across relevant technical areas, with the ability to adapt quickly to new technologies, projects, and industry changes.
• Strong knowledge of hirify.global’s business offerings, including Industrial IT and Systems Design.
• Experience performing independent studies, analyses, interpretations, and conclusions involving complex or unusual matters.
• Demonstrated ability to make responsible decisions involving long-range objectives and budgets.
• Experience mentoring and guiding less experienced designers.
• Willingness to travel between 30% and 50%.

Nice to have

• Experience with AutoCAD 2012/2014 or later; Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Omron, Modicon, or GE PLC systems; PLC I/O modules and buses; Ethernet PLC communications; motor starters, relays, operator controls, field sensors, variable frequency drives, servo motion control, pneumatic and hydraulic control products, and safety monitoring relays or PLCs.
