Senior Staff ML Engineer - Atlas Agents Team (Robotics)

Location: Waltham, MA, United States; candidates must be eligible to work in the United States. Visa sponsorship is not available.

Base pay: $180,000–$220,000 annually, plus an annual bonus structure.

What you will do

• Build and integrate Atlas's agentic capabilities using VLMs, tool calls, context engineering, and memory.
• Design observability, logging, and tracing infrastructure for system behavior and performance visibility.
• Develop evaluations and benchmarks for reasoning quality, safety, reliability, and generalization across tasks and environments.
• Develop operator dashboards, task configuration UIs, and diagnostic interfaces for building and deploying Atlas applications.
• Collaborate with behavior, controls, product, and interaction design experts to ship end-to-end capabilities.
• Work with customers and internal stakeholders to understand real-world use cases; contribute through code reviews, testing, documentation, and system design.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with a strong full-stack background spanning backend development and LLM integrations.
• Ability to design and integrate APIs and third-party services in complex distributed systems.
• Strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, distributed systems, and software architecture.
• Proficiency with modern backend technologies such as TypeScript and Python, and data stores such as Postgres and Redis.
• Ability to ship reliable, maintainable, well-tested software while using agentic coding tools such as Claude Code.
• Comfort working in fast-moving, ambiguous environments and owning problems end to end.
• Eligibility to work in the United States.

Nice to have

• Experience with VLM-backed agentic systems, including context engineering, tool use, and model selection or fine-tuning.
• Experience building model and harness benchmarks, including gym environments, datasets, tooling, and leaderboards, for VLMs or agents.
• Experience with robotics systems, computer vision models, and real-time data pipelines.
• Proficiency with modern frontend frameworks such as React.
• Familiarity with observability platforms such as OpenTelemetry.
