Engineering Manager (AI)

What you will do

• Lead, coach, and retain a remote team of approximately 10 senior and principal engineers.
• Conduct regular 1:1s, provide actionable feedback, and support career development, engagement, performance, and organizational health.
• Partner with senior leadership on hiring, onboarding, workforce planning, and team composition.
• Track delivery across multiple teams, manage dependencies, risks, blockers, sequencing, and competing priorities.
• Coordinate across teams, escalate issues early, facilitate team rituals, and drive operational excellence.
• Contribute hands-on through code reviews, technical guidance, tooling improvements, documentation, and targeted implementation support.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree and 8+ years of direct experience, including 5+ years of management experience.
• 5+ years of engineering experience, including at least 2 years in an engineering management role.
• Experience managing senior and principal-level engineers through coaching and environment-setting rather than direct technical oversight.
• Strong program coordination skills, including dependency management, prioritization, and management of multiple workstreams.
• Sufficient technical depth to understand deliverables, participate in technical discussions, and contribute hands-on when needed.
• Excellent communication skills for translating complex technical concepts to engineering teams and senior leadership.
• Demonstrated success working remotely in a distributed environment with a high degree of autonomy.
• Ability to work with organizational objectives, strategic policies, budgets, schedules, work plans, performance requirements, and sensitive cross-functional issues.

Nice to have

• Experience with .NET/C#, Azure, or distributed systems.
• Experience with SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or similar SQL databases.
• Experience with event-driven architecture using Debezium, CDC, Kafka, or Azure Event Hubs.
• Experience with Databricks.
• Background in modernization, migration, or system decomposition initiatives.
• Experience in the HCM domain.
