Senior Java Engineer (AI)

Location: Remote in Poland or Romania

What you will do

• Build and operate backend services and APIs with Java, Python, and FastAPI for AI-driven products.
• Contribute to LangGraph conversational workflows, including routing, handler execution, context management, guardrails, streaming, and guided shopping experiences.
• Own backend features and integrations supporting search, personalization, shopper profiles, LLMs, and other consumer platform services.
• Define and maintain service contracts while delivering scalable, reliable, production-ready software.
• Implement testing, monitoring, performance optimization, rollout planning, observability, and operational support.
• Collaborate with engineers, product managers, designers, data scientists, and domain service teams to evolve the architecture.

Requirements

• Professional experience building and operating backend services with Java or a similar programming language such as Python.
• Strong knowledge of HTTP APIs, microservice design, service boundaries, data modeling, automated testing, and production operations.
• Proficiency with AWS and cloud-based application development and deployment.
• Experience with data access layers, SQL databases, caching strategies, and storage solutions.
• Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and complexity analysis.
• Familiarity with FastAPI or other modern Python web frameworks.
• Experience integrating distributed services through APIs, shared contracts, or schema-based communication.
• Familiarity with LangChain, LangGraph, LLM integrations, agent orchestration, asynchronous processing, or stateful workflow development.
• Understanding of observability, software quality practices, performance optimization, and backend production readiness.
• Strong communication skills for discussing progress, tradeoffs, dependencies, and risks.
• Collaborative, curious, and proactive mindset with the ability to navigate ambiguity and contribute within an evolving architecture.
• Upper-Intermediate English level or higher.

Nice to have

• Experience with search, recommendation engines, personalization platforms, marketplaces, or other consumer-facing products.
