Controls Estimator (HVAC Controls)

Location: Columbus, Ohio or Moon Township, Pennsylvania, United States. Onsite Monday through Thursday; Fridays allow flexibility in work location.

Annual base salary: $84,423.33–$107,400.00. Incentive eligible; not eligible for sales commission.

What you will do

• Prepare cost estimates for materials, purchased equipment, subcontractors, labor, startup, service work, and other construction-related activities to support Account Managers with project bids and pricing.
• Develop detailed scopes from design-build requirements, plans, and specifications for competitive bidding.
• Create estimates with system sketches, scope definitions, exceptions and exclusions, preliminary proposals, vendor and subcontractor quotes, and points lists.
• Perform equipment take-offs and pricing, verifying quantities, sizes, configurations, voltages, and options.
• Lead pre-bid meetings with Account Managers, identify cost-saving opportunities and project risks, and negotiate vendor and subcontractor pricing.
• Support engineering decisions and collaborate with Operations and Fulfillment to validate bids and control labor, material, and electrical subcontract cost variations.

Requirements

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field with 3–5 years of experience in estimating, engineering, or construction management; or 5–7 years of controls field experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Candidates without a four-year degree may apply; practical experience, relevant skills, and alignment with leadership principles are considered.
• Proven experience with building automation, HVAC controls, and HVAC systems.
• Strong financial and business acumen and a history of completing projects on time and on budget.
• Ability to prioritize tasks, meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment, and maintain attention to detail.
• Flexibility to work overtime and weekends as required.
• Valid driver’s license held for at least 12 months, with no major or frequent traffic violations or preventable collisions during the previous three years.

Nice to have

• Working knowledge of construction disciplines including mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
• Experience working directly with building owners.
