Co-op, Cell & Molecular Neurology Research (ALS)

Location: On campus in Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States. This is a six-month full-time student role from January through June 2027. Candidates must have legal authorization to work in the U.S.

Base compensation: $29.00–$33.00 per hour.

What you will do

• Support exploratory, discovery-stage ALS research focused on molecular and cellular mechanisms, target identification, and target validation.
• Design, execute, troubleshoot, and analyze molecular and cell-based experiments with scientists.
• Perform qPCR, ddPCR, gel electrophoresis, western blotting, AlphaLISA, MSD protein assays, immunostaining, fluorescence microscopy, and quantitative image analysis.
• Maintain mammalian cell cultures and perform plasmid transfection and viral transduction using human iPSC-derived neurons and established cell lines.
• Generate reproducible data, document methods and results, and prepare data summaries, figures, and internal scientific presentations.
• Assist with assay development, optimization, and validation while following laboratory safety, quality, and data integrity standards.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in and pursuing a Master’s or PhD in molecular biology, biochemistry, neuroscience, or a related discipline; preferred programs include Molecular Biology/Biochemistry or Neuroscience.
• Strong molecular biology foundation with hands-on experience in genomics- and proteomics-based assays, including qPCR, ddPCR, western blotting, and protein analysis methods.
• Proficiency in mammalian cell culture and experience with iPSC-derived neurons and/or established cell lines, including assay development and optimization.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, rigorous experimental documentation, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Currently enrolled in an accredited community college, college, university, or skills program/apprenticeship.
• At least 18 years of age before the scheduled start date.
• Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
