TL;DR
Staff SiPho & III-V Test Engineer (Silicon Photonics): Developing scalable, production-ready test methodologies, automated routines, and specialized hardware for silicon photonics, lasers, and advanced optoelectronic products with an accent on photonics measurement, Python automation, optical alignment, and data analysis. Focus on designing multi-axis alignment systems, validating optomechanical fixtures and PCBs, conducting Gauge R&R studies, and improving hardware yield through measurement correlation.

Location: Mountain View, California, United States; hybrid work with at least 3 days per week in the office.

Base salary: $181,000–$262,000 per year, plus annual bonus, equity compensation, and benefits.

Company

hirify.global develops self-driving technology and transportation solutions for safer, more efficient mobility and logistics.

What you will do

  • Develop automated routines to execute and analyze silicon photonics, III-V, laser, and optoelectronic measurements, including optical power, insertion loss, LIV sweeps, extinction ratio, modulation bandwidth, and coupling efficiency.
  • Design and validate optomechanical fixtures, probe cards, and custom PCBs for R&D and high-volume manufacturing.
  • Build software control systems, search algorithms, and machine vision tools for multi-axis optical alignment and chip-to-chip or FAU-to-chip coupling optimization.
  • Correlate measurement data with physical device behavior, monitor process variations, and drive hardware yield improvements.
  • Establish test specifications, Gauge R&R studies, calibration procedures, qualification procedures, measurement best practices, data quality checks, and documentation standards.
  • Translate characterization results into recommendations for laser design, photonics integration, packaging, system architecture, and reliability teams.

Requirements

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Photonics, Optical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 6+ years of hands-on experience in photonics, laser, semiconductor, or optoelectronic testing.
  • Fundamental understanding of optical, electrical, and optoelectrical measurement techniques and instrumentation.
  • Proficiency in Python or similar object-oriented programming languages.

Nice to have

  • Experience with advanced optical sensing technologies, including lidar, silicon photonics, or related fields.
  • Experience designing automated optical alignment systems with multi-axis motion control, alignment search algorithms, and real-time feedback optimization.
  • Experience in experimental design and statistical analysis of large characterization datasets, including drawing conclusions and providing actionable feedback to design teams.
  • Experience architecting automated test systems from concept through production deployment in semiconductor, photonics, or advanced hardware environments.
  • Experience with complex high-speed optical and electrical measurements using photodetectors, RF spectrum analyzers, VNAs, and high-speed oscilloscopes, including hardware calibration and de-embedding.

Culture & Benefits

  • Work alongside experienced engineers on complex self-driving and transportation problems.
  • In-person collaboration is expected, with at least 3 office days per week and potentially more based on operational needs.
  • Annual bonus, equity compensation, and employee benefits are provided.
  • Work is guided by safety, integrity, ambitious goals, collaboration, inclusion, and reasonable accommodation commitments.
