Forward Deployed Full Stack Engineer (Active Secret Clearance)

Location: Remote USA; the role also requires working on site with client users and stakeholders. US citizenship and an active US Secret clearance or higher are required; new clearance sponsorship is not available.

What you will do

• Embed with client end users, product owners, and technical and security teams to understand workflows and translate needs into software.
• Build and ship production features across front end, back end, data, and infrastructure, owning features from discovery through deployment.
• Deploy software into on-premises, government cloud, air-gapped, and restricted network environments.
• Prototype and iterate with users when requirements are ambiguous.
• Build LLM-powered features and agentic workflows using self-hosted or approved models within security and data-handling constraints.
• Prepare code and documentation for security reviews and support authorization requirements with ISSO and compliance teams.

Requirements

• Active US Secret clearance or higher, ability to maintain it, and US citizenship.
• 5+ years of professional full stack development experience shipping production software.
• Strong front-end skills in TypeScript and a modern framework, preferably React.
• Strong back-end skills in at least one of Python, Node.js, Java, or Go, plus REST and/or GraphQL API design.
• Relational database experience with PostgreSQL or similar, including data modeling and query performance.
• Hands-on experience with containers and CI/CD; Docker is required.
• Cloud experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Direct experience with end users or customer stakeholders and the ability to explain technical tradeoffs in plain language.
• Use of AI coding tools in day-to-day development, with judgment about where they are useful and where they are not.
• Ability to make progress and make sensible technical decisions without a fully formed specification.

Nice to have

• Experience in forward deployed, field engineering, or embedded consulting roles.
• Experience deploying into air-gapped or disconnected environments.
• Familiarity with NIST 800-53, RMF/ATO processes, DISA STIGs, or FedRAMP.
• DoD 8140/8570-aligned certification such as CompTIA Security+.
• Experience with LLMs, including RAG, agent frameworks, evaluation, or running open-weight models on approved infrastructure.
• Active TS or TS/SCI clearance.
• Kubernetes or OpenShift, government cloud regions such as AWS GovCloud or Azure Government.
