Platform Engineer - AWS

Location: Hybrid, with the office in London and additional office locations in Cambridge and Leeds. Most employees are expected to attend an office at least twice per month. Applicants must already have the full right to work in the UK for the full duration of the contract; visa sponsorship is not available.

Salary from £73,400 per year.

What you will do

• Design, build, operate, and optimize the AWS cloud platform, including the AWS Organization and Landing Zone.
• Develop and maintain Engineering Golden Path templates, reusable platform components, standards, and infrastructure-as-code solutions.
• Build, maintain, and optimize GitLab CI/CD pipelines using Terraform and Ansible to automate deployments and reduce manual effort.
• Contribute to cloud governance covering security, cost management, compliance, tagging strategies, and multi-account AWS environments.
• Monitor performance, automate resilience improvements, troubleshoot platform issues, and support reliable operations.
• Enable and mentor application teams, contribute to engineering strategy, and collaborate with the DevOps team and wider engineering community.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of commercial experience as a Platform Engineer, Cloud Engineer, or in a similar DevOps role.
• At least 2 years of commercial AWS experience.
• At least 2 years of Terraform experience for infrastructure automation.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, particularly GitLab CI/CD, and DevOps best practices.
• Familiarity with automation tools such as Ansible, Chef, or Puppet.
• Understanding of cloud governance principles, including cost optimization, tagging strategies, security best practices, and multi-account AWS environments.
• Interest in enabling and mentoring application teams in cloud best practices and promoting a self-service model while maintaining architectural and operational standards.
• Proficiency in scripting, including Python, and Infrastructure as Code practices for automation, infrastructure optimization, and CI/CD support.

Nice to have

• AWS, Terraform, or automation certifications.
• Experience working in an organization with a Cloud Centre of Excellence.
• A recent Computer Science or relevant Engineering degree.
