Editor-in-Chief, JGME (Medical Education)

Location: Remote; applicants must be currently authorized to work full-time in the United States. The role requires travel and presentations at key medical education meetings. Employment sponsorship is not provided.

hirify.global publishes The Journal of Graduate Medical Education and oversees its mission, scope, and performance through the Journal Oversight Committee.

What you will do

• Define and maintain JGME's editorial vision and prioritize rigorous, credible, and relevant content for the graduate medical education community.
• Address emerging GME challenges, including assessment, transitions between undergraduate education, GME, and practice, new technologies, and professionalism.
• Oversee a fair, consistent, high-integrity peer-review process; make final publication decisions after input from senior and associate editors; and improve submission-to-publication timelines.
• Recruit, guide, sustain, and recognize the Editorial Board, senior editors, associate editors, resident editors, visual media editor, statistics editor, and peer reviewers.
• Maintain editorial independence while aligning the journal's scope with the hirify.global mission and reporting journal activities, directions, and policies to the Journal Oversight Committee.
• Strengthen JGME's position, readership, engagement, and international reach while encouraging innovation in content, format, and dissemination.

Requirements

• MD, DO, or PhD degree required.
• Established leadership in graduate medical education and education scholarship, with a deep understanding of GME systems, accreditation, program leadership, and educational practice.
• On-the-ground experience as a GME leader, such as program director, associate program director, designated institutional official, dean for GME, or equivalent.
• Demonstrated editorial and peer-review experience.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills, outstanding writing skills, and the ability to attract talented editors, authors, and reviewers while sustaining collaboration and consensus.
• Creativity and innovation demonstrated through prior published work, plus the ability to adapt to evolving journal publishing practices.
• Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office, specifically Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Current authorization to work full-time in the United States is required; employment sponsorship is not provided.
• Ability to travel and present at key medical education meetings, including ICRE and the hirify.global Annual Educational Conference.

Nice to have

• Experience across varied settings, such as different program sizes and university, state-federal, community, or health care system environments, is beneficial but not essential.
