Software Product Owner (SaaS)

What you will do

• Own and actively manage the software team backlog, maintaining priorities, readiness criteria and sufficient work for upcoming sprints.
• Lead backlog refinement with Engineering, QA, UX and technical stakeholders, clarifying scope, dependencies, acceptance criteria, risks and non-functional needs.
• Work with Product Management to decompose product outcomes and EPICs into coherent, valuable and estimable user stories.
• Participate in sprint planning, reviews, retrospectives, release planning and other team ceremonies, providing timely decisions and clarification.
• Balance scope, value, quality, risk and time while surfacing blockers, dependencies and trade-offs early.
• Partner with engineering, architecture, customer-facing and domain teams to develop reusable SaaS capabilities for multiple energy customers and support release readiness.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of experience as a Product Owner, Senior Product Owner or in an equivalent role delivering complex software products.
• Hands-on experience with software engineering teams in sprint-based Agile delivery, including backlog refinement, sprint planning, daily Scrum, sprint reviews, retrospectives and release planning.
• Strong backlog management skills, including prioritisation, EPIC decomposition, user-story creation, acceptance criteria and maintaining delivery-ready work.
• Experience translating product strategy, roadmap priorities and customer outcomes into executable delivery backlogs with Product Management.
• Ability to influence engineering delivery without line-managing the team, resolve ambiguity and facilitate timely product decisions.
• Experience developing SaaS, cloud or data-centric software products that scale across multiple customers rather than being built as bespoke solutions.
• Experience with data-intensive or large-scale software platforms and understanding of data ingestion, processing, storage and consumption.
• Understanding of the software development lifecycle, APIs, integrations, data flows and modern cloud-based application delivery.
• Ability to work with technical stakeholders on dependencies, non-functional requirements, cybersecurity, quality and operational considerations without prescribing architecture or implementation.
• Excellent facilitation, communication and stakeholder-management skills, with confidence to challenge constructively and make value-led prioritisation decisions.
• Comfort using delivery and product evidence to identify risk, improve predictability and inform roadmap conversations.
• Fluent written and spoken English.

Nice to have

• Practical experience with Disciplined Agile and adapting ways of working to the product, team and delivery context.
• Experience in energy, utilities, industrial IoT, grid monitoring or another asset-intensive or operational technology domain.
• Experience with platforms that ingest, contextualise or analyse data from connected devices, enterprise systems or third-party sources.
• Understanding of microservices, APIs, event-driven or data-driven architectures and cloud-native SaaS delivery.
• Experience working across multiple software teams or coordinating dependencies in a complex product environment.
• Experience with Behaviour-Driven Development, collaborative acceptance-criteria definition or similar practices improving shared understanding and story readiness.
