Senior Java Backend Developer

Location: Lisbon, Portugal — Amoreiras area; hybrid model with 3 days on-site and 2 days remote per week. Current residence in Portugal is mandatory.

Gross monthly salary: €2,800–€3,100, depending on professional experience and technical expertise.

What you will do

• Design, develop, implement, and maintain scalable Java microservices.
• Develop and maintain RESTful and GraphQL APIs with OpenAPI documentation.
• Make architecture decisions, establish software development best practices, coding standards, quality gates, and conduct code reviews.
• Design and support IAM, authentication, authorization, event-driven architectures, and messaging integrations.
• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, scalability challenges, and security vulnerabilities.
• Mentor junior and mid-level developers and collaborate with stakeholders.

Requirements

• Minimum 8 years of professional experience in Java backend development.
• Current residence in Portugal is mandatory.
• Portuguese and English at C1 level are mandatory.
• Strong experience designing, developing, and implementing scalable Java microservices.
• Experience in technical leadership, architecture decisions, software development best practices, code reviews, coding standards, and quality gates.
• Experience with RESTful and GraphQL APIs, including OpenAPI documentation.
• Strong knowledge of Keycloak, Okta, OIDC, RBAC, IAM architecture, authentication, and authorization.
• Experience with event-driven architectures and messaging technologies, particularly AWS SQS and Solace.
• Solid knowledge of SQL and relational databases.
• Familiarity with SonarQube and Snyk; experience with Agile methodologies and DevOps practices.
• Knowledge of React and web application integration.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Nice to have

• Experience in e-commerce, digital commerce platforms, or complex enterprise environments.
• Knowledge of AWS Cloud architectures.
• Experience defining software architecture standards and application security strategies.
• Experience producing technical documentation, Architecture Decision Records, and runbooks.
• Experience collaborating with Product Owners, solution architects, and international stakeholders.
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and continuous delivery practices.
