Sr Manager, Data Engineering (AI)

Location: Sacramento, California, United States; primarily an office position with physical and site presence requirements.

Annual base salary: $166,610.90–$222,148; bonuses and commissions may also be available.

What you will do

• Lead, mentor, and develop teams of data analysts, engineers, data scientists, and developers.
• Oversee planning, execution, resource allocation, and delivery of data and analytics projects.
• Translate business needs into actionable analytics initiatives and serve as the primary stakeholder contact.
• Guide data governance, data quality, privacy, security, compliance, and regulatory adherence.
• Track project KPIs and communicate analytics progress and impact to senior leadership.
• Shape the strategic direction of the data and analytics function while improving tools, processes, methodologies, and operational efficiency.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of relevant experience in data engineering, analytics, data science, or a related field, including 2+ years in a leadership or managerial role overseeing data teams and projects.
• Strong quantitative analysis, data manipulation, business data application, analytical thinking, problem-solving, attention to detail, and data quality skills.
• Ability to lead, mentor, and develop diverse data teams and translate business needs into actionable data strategies.
• Proficiency with data analytics tools, Python, SQL, and data management platforms.
• Experience managing complex data projects, resource allocation, and timelines; ability to communicate complex data insights to non-technical stakeholders.
• Expertise in data governance and compliance policies, with the ability to adapt to industry trends and changing business needs.
• Advanced Python development using clean, object-oriented, production-grade code for data manipulation, automation, and API communication.
• Hands-on AWS ECS and ECR containerized workload deployment, management, and scaling, plus S3, IAM, Lambda, EC2, CloudWatch, and CloudTrail.
• Snowflake account administration, virtual warehouse clustering and budget optimization, Data Sharing, Time Travel, and zero-copy cloning.
• Management of multi-repository dbt projects and dbt Cloud environments; creation, documentation, and optimization of advanced dbt models and custom macros.
• Daily proficiency with AI coding assistants such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or Claude/OpenAI APIs, and familiarity with Snowflake Cortex or AWS Bedrock.
• Experience with incremental loading, CDC methods, complex external REST APIs, advanced Git/GitHub branching strategies, pull request enforcement, and automated deployment pipelines.

Nice to have

• Certifications in data analytics, data management, project management, or relevant technical areas, such as CAP or PMP.
• AWS certification.
• Exposure to LangChain, vector databases, or text embedding generation for AI data preparation.
