General Manager Operations (Transport & Fuel Distribution)

Location: Newport, Victoria, Australia; onsite operational leadership across national fuel transport and distribution operations.

What you will do

• Lead a team of 6 direct reports, including regional operations managers and administrative functions, plus more than 200 indirect reports across transport and scheduling operations.
• Oversee the safe, reliable and commercially effective delivery of fuel transport operations involving more than 120 trucks.
• Set operational standards, lead safety and compliance activities, and manage incident investigations, risk registers, audits, inspections and corrective actions.
• Coach managers, schedulers, administrators, drivers and operational employees while overseeing workforce planning, rostering, succession planning and capability development.
• Balance customer priorities, fleet availability, driver hours, product availability and route constraints, including contingency planning for disruptions and seasonal demand.
• Manage budgets, forecasts and cost-control plans while improving productivity, fleet capability, depot capacity and delivery economics.

Requirements

• Demonstrated senior leadership experience in transport, fuel distribution, logistics, fleet, depot or comparable high-risk operations.
• Strong working knowledge of heavy vehicle operations, including fatigue, mass, load restraint and road transport compliance.
• Working knowledge of dangerous goods transport and handling requirements and operational safety management systems.
• Experience leading geographically dispersed teams and managing operational performance through frontline leaders.
• Demonstrated capability in fleet strategy, asset lifecycle management, maintenance, scheduling and operational cost control.
• Commercial acumen covering budgeting, forecasting, supplier management and data-led decision-making.
• Strong judgement, problem-solving, negotiation, conflict-resolution and stakeholder communication skills.
• Ability to lead calmly and decisively during time-critical disruptions, incidents and competing customer priorities.
• Relevant licences, certifications or accreditations required to visit and work safely within operational sites must be maintained.
