  • Design models to detect anomalous behavior and emerging risks in complex processes.
  • Apply statistical and data-driven techniques to support quality assurance, system integrity, and counter-sabotage objectives.
  • Perform exploratory data analysis and contribute to documentation, testing, and continuous improvement of analytical workflows.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate operational challenges into analytical solutions.
  • Communicate technical findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a calculus-based STEM field and at least 2 years of relevant experience; skill-building experience must demonstrate deeper technical specialization or additional cross-disciplinary knowledge, and graduate research experience may be recognized.
  • Proficiency with compiled and interpreted scripting languages such as C, C++, or Python.
  • Experience developing statistical concepts to solve physical science problems.
  • Experience building machine learning models for multimodal datasets.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work on-site at the Special Technologies Laboratory in Santa Barbara, California.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, including U.S. citizenship, background investigation, drug testing, and other applicable security evaluations.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Pre-placement physical examination, including a drug screen, is required.

Nice to have

  • Graduate degree in a STEM field, preferably with a calculus-based physical science, engineering, or applied mathematics degree.
  • Coursework in applied mathematics, electrical engineering, software engineering, or computer engineering.
  • Interest in autonomous manufacturing and inspection.
  • Proficiency with signal processing, data exploration, and statistical analysis techniques.
  • Interest in clustering, regression, and classification methods.
  • Experience with data visualization tools and user interfaces.
  • Experience developing physical-phenomena models to correlate with measured data.

Culture & Benefits

  • Interdisciplinary work across multiple teams with diverse subject-matter backgrounds.
  • Flexible work schedule may be negotiated with the manager.
  • Available schedules include 5/8s, 9/80, or 4/10 work weeks.
  • Employment is subject to a substance-abuse policy, including random drug testing.
