Lead Data Scientist (AI)

Location: Remote within the United States; applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States.

Salary: $140,000–$190,000 annually, with a possible annual bonus and benefits depending on the position.

What you will do

• Apply advanced data science and AI techniques to solve complex problems and drive business outcomes for the PreK–12 business.
• Develop innovative methodologies, scalable solutions, and structured frameworks for ambiguous challenges in K–12 educational contexts.
• Interpret internal business issues and recommend data science and AI solutions aligned with business goals.
• Plan and execute projects independently, with minimal oversight and leadership input for strategic alignment.
• Collaborate with technical and non-technical teams, communicating complex measurement and data science concepts through data-driven storytelling.
• Provide technical mentorship and facilitate alignment across teams.

Requirements

• Doctoral degree or equivalent in Data Science, Psychometrics, Statistics, Quantitative Methods, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.
• 4–7 years of professional experience delivering impactful data science or AI projects.
• Advanced data science and AI knowledge with industry experience applying these techniques to complex real-world problems.
• Experience taking data science and AI models through the full operational lifecycle, from research and validation to deployment, implementation, monitoring, validation, and periodic recalibration.
• Ability to reason about and communicate system design, scaling, and pipeline architecture so models are implemented faithfully and maintained reliably in production.
• Strong Python skills and experience writing production-quality, scalable code.
• Strong technical communication and collaboration skills, especially with non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Commitment to education and improving K–12 student outcomes.
• Experience at an assessment company, adaptive learning platform, or edtech company shipping proficiency-based or adaptive/personalization products.
• Familiarity with K–12 assessment ecosystems, including standards alignment, score reporting, adaptive assessment, and personalization.
• Familiarity with machine learning, NLP, deep learning, and/or generative AI approaches, particularly in educational contexts.
