Principal AI Engineer

Location: Remote/Teleworker, available in Georgia, Illinois, North Carolina, Texas, and Wisconsin, United States

Annual base salary: USD 157,000–361,000, depending on geographic location, experience, education, training, and skills; variable incentives may also be offered.

What you will do

• Design, develop, deploy, evaluate, and optimize advanced machine learning models and algorithms, including data preprocessing, feature engineering, training, and testing.
• Architect scalable, performant, and reliable AI systems using distributed computing frameworks and cloud services.
• Apply data mining, data modeling, natural language processing, machine learning, and statistical modeling to structured and unstructured datasets.
• Lead research initiatives, experiments, design reviews, feedback loops, and continuous improvement efforts.
• Collaborate with data scientists, software engineers, product managers, engineering managers, and team leads to translate requirements and industry trends into AI products and system improvements.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship, coordinate meetings, and present technical strategies and business impact to executive stakeholders.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, engineering, data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, or a closely related quantitative discipline.
• 8+ years of experience in AI and machine learning.
• Knowledge of supervised and unsupervised learning, deep learning, reinforcement learning, natural language processing, computer vision, and statistical modeling.
• Experience implementing and deploying machine learning algorithms such as decision trees, random forests, support vector machines, and neural networks.
• Proficiency with Python, Java, or C++ and required knowledge of machine learning frameworks and libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or scikit-learn.
• Experience with data wrangling, feature extraction, dimensionality reduction, missing-value handling, and data quality issues.
• Understanding of linear algebra, calculus, probability theory, and statistics.
• Strong communication skills for cross-functional collaboration, explaining complex AI concepts, and providing technical leadership and mentorship.
• Experience guiding and mentoring other engineers.

Nice to have

• Expertise in deep learning architectures and frameworks, including CNNs, RNNs, and GANs.
• Familiarity with software engineering principles, Git, testing methodologies, and agile development practices.
• Experience leading research initiatives, publishing research papers, or contributing to open-source AI projects.
• Experience with data visualization tools and techniques.
• Passion for continuous learning, following research papers, attending conferences, and contributing to the AI community.
