AppOps, Senior Specialist (Java)

Location: Toronto; flexible hybrid work model. Full-time eligibility to work for hirify.global Corp. in Canada is required.

Salary: $105,000–$135,000 per year, plus eligibility for a short-term incentive plan.

What you will do

• Own end-to-end operations and provide 24/7 production support for large-scale Java and JEE applications, focusing on availability, resilience, and rapid recovery.
• Participate in on-call rotations, respond to alerts, triage incidents, lead technical investigations, and develop solutions during unplanned events.
• Diagnose application, infrastructure, database, and network issues using monitoring tools, logs, and API- and network-level analysis.
• Lead root-cause analyses and post-incident reviews, translating findings into actions that prevent recurrence and reduce recovery time.
• Design and improve observability through health rules, alerts, dashboards, synthetic monitoring, performance analysis, and integrations across AppDynamics, Dynatrace, Splunk, ELK, PagerDuty, and ServiceNow.
• Implement automation and self-remediation, maintain operational documentation, configure network rules and appliances, and coach Application Operations Analysts and Specialists.

Requirements

• University degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
• 5+ years of combined experience in Java software development and application support or maintenance, preferably in payment systems or banking, including at least 3 years supporting and maintaining Java or JEE applications.
• Strong expertise in Core Java, object-oriented programming, RESTful services, Spring, Apache, JAXB2, JSON, and XML.
• Experience with application monitoring, dashboard design, alert tuning, AppDynamics, Dynatrace, Splunk, and ELK.
• Strong SRE mindset and experience supporting high-throughput, low-latency, service-oriented production architectures.
• Advanced troubleshooting across the Java stack, including application, API, infrastructure, database, and network investigation.
• Understanding of Linux, Windows, WebSphere, middleware, networking hardware, firewalls, load balancers, and network appliances.
• Knowledge of cloud and container architectures, Docker, Kubernetes, relational databases such as Oracle or DB2, SQL, CI/CD, deployment, and release management.
• Experience with Bash, PowerShell, Python, Ansible, ISO payment standards, ITIL service management, and Agile software delivery.
• Strong technical writing, communication, prioritization, organization, adaptability, and stakeholder-management skills.
• Ability and willingness to participate in 24/7 on-call coverage, including evening and weekend hours.
• Eligibility to work for hirify.global Corp. in Canada in a full-time capacity.
