Applications Engineer (Semiconductor Assembly)

Location: Piscataway, New Jersey, USA; laboratory-based role with domestic and international travel as necessary.

Salary: $81,470–$122,206 base salary, depending on experience; performance-related bonus plan also offered.

What you will do

• Support commercial expansion of semiconductor assembly products through laboratory activities, customer builds, sample campaigns, and application testing.
• Run and maintain processing and testing equipment, including pick-and-place machines, reflow ovens, sinter presses, die bonders, printing systems, environmental chambers, power cyclers, die shear machines, and electrical probing equipment.
• Optimize soldering, sintering, epoxy die bonding, materials, and assembly processes; conduct design of experiments and reliability testing, including thermal and power cycling.
• Own customer application projects from conception through implementation and conclusion, gather process and analytical data, and prepare technical reports.
• Conduct failure mode analysis, identify defects and materials involved, and provide improvement solutions while supporting R&D product development and global multi-site projects.
• Provide technical support to Business Development, prepare technical papers and presentations, collaborate with partner companies and machine suppliers, and maintain laboratory safety, 5S, calibration, and document control.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, chemistry, or a related field.
• At least three years of experience in the Semiconductor Assembly field.
• Ability to perform manual work, including basic machine assembly and disassembly for maintenance and modification.
• Knowledge of Computer Aided Design.
• Strong knowledge of chemistry, materials science, or chemical engineering and experience with specialty chemicals applications.
• Ability to design and conduct experiments, interpret results, recommend solutions, analyze performance data, and prepare technical reports.
• Experience providing technical assistance and troubleshooting in industrial or commercial settings.
• Ability to create clear documentation and present technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ability to manage application projects and coordinate multiple stakeholders; willingness to collaborate with global teams and travel domestically and internationally as necessary.

Nice to have

• Advanced technical or engineering degree.
• Prior experience in applications engineering or technical service.
• Familiarity with electronics, coatings, adhesives, or polymers end-use markets.
