Data Engineer (Python)

Location: Galway, Ireland; hybrid working is the default in Ireland, with core hours from 10am to 4pm. Remote options depend on the role, and the work abroad programme allows up to 6 weeks.

hirify.global develops a performance optimisation platform for public transport that supports data-driven decisions for major transport operators and government authorities.

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain scalable pipelines ingesting vehicle telemetry, schedule data, passenger ticketing/APC demand, and geospatial topology.
• Develop automated data cleaning, validation, and deduplication logic for raw, noisy datasets.
• Optimize processing pipelines for geospatial mapping, corridor-level analysis, and real-time or batch data enrichment.
• Manage pipelines, monitor jobs, implement automated testing, and handle errors for reliable downstream processing.
• Collaborate with data scientists, software engineers, and product teams to implement transportation algorithms and domain logic.
• Troubleshoot complex processing issues, perform root-cause analysis, and improve data ingestion pipelines.

Requirements

• 3+ years of professional experience in data engineering or a closely related field.
• Experience designing, developing, or maintaining data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes, or data-driven systems.
• Solid understanding of data modeling, data warehousing concepts, and data quality principles.
• Experience with cloud-based data platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
• Advanced SQL skills, including data modeling, query performance tuning, and schema design across relational, NoSQL, and cloud data warehouses such as Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, MySQL, and MongoDB.
• Proficiency in Python or Java.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills, collaborative cross-functional working ability, and willingness to learn, ask questions, and grow in the role.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with modern data technologies such as Spark, Airflow, dbt, Kafka, or similar tools.
