Architect Advisor (AWS/Data)

Location: Hybrid, based out of the Kansas City, Missouri office; employees are required to be in the office on a scheduled frequency.

What you will do

• Design, build, maintain, and evolve the Enterprise Data Lake and supporting platforms across ingestion, storage, processing, integration, and governed data consumption.
• Translate business and technical requirements into scalable data architectures and solution designs aligned with enterprise architecture, security, and development standards.
• Develop reusable ingestion patterns and automate onboarding, testing, deployment, and data delivery to improve scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
• Design governed data consumption patterns and entitlement frameworks, including access controls, entitlement reviews, audit evidence, and remediation of platform control gaps.
• Apply AWS DevOps practices including infrastructure as code, CI/CD, monitoring, troubleshooting, and operational improvements.
• Evaluate emerging data technologies, provide technical leadership in an agile environment, guide architecture decisions, and mentor junior developers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent relevant work experience.
• Ability to translate business requirements into data solution and application architectures, communicate design decisions and trade-offs, and collaborate with IT and business stakeholders.
• Strong hands-on experience designing, deploying, and supporting production data solutions in AWS, including serverless processing, orchestration, infrastructure as code, monitoring, and information security.
• Hands-on AWS DevOps experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, build and artifact/package management, automated testing and deployment, and infrastructure as code using AWS CloudFormation or Terraform.
• Understanding of governed data access, IAM, role-based entitlements, least-privilege principles, encryption, and audit logging for cloud data platforms.
• 5+ years of experience with object-oriented or functional programming languages, including hands-on Python development; Java experience is also relevant.
• 5+ years of experience with AWS data-solution services such as CloudFormation, S3, Lambda, IAM, EMR, and KMS.
• 7+ years of hands-on engineering experience implementing and supporting data ingestion and transformation pipelines using ETL/ELT and data lake or operational data store patterns.
• 5+ years of experience using SDLC and Agile, RDBMS technologies such as MySQL, Postgres, and MSSQL, and ESB, messaging, or integration tools such as Kafka or SQS.
• Proven experience leading and mentoring in a multifunctional, collaborative environment involving business units, vendors, countries, and cultures.

Nice to have

• Experience in data modeling, schema design and development, and dimensional modeling.
• AWS Certification and experience with AWS services including EC2, Kinesis, ECS, and ELB.
• Experience designing, building, or consuming data APIs; familiarity with event-driven architecture and microservices.
• Experience with advanced analytics tools and languages such as R, Python, Java, and SAS.
• Test automation design and implementation experience.
• Experience with ETL tools such as IDMC, TSQL, SSIS, or Matillion.
• 1+ years of data visualization experience with Tableau or Power BI.
• Experience working with financial product datasets.
• Experience supporting audit evidence, access reviews, and control processes in a regulated or audited technology environment.
