Manager, Lab Engineering (Robotics)

Location: Wilmington, Massachusetts, USA; onsite at the Integrated Testing Center.

Salary: $120,750–$177,100 base pay annually, plus medical, dental, vision, disability, 401(k), PTO, and other benefits.

What you will do

• Build and lead the Lab Engineering function supporting Reliability Engineering and System Test across multiple robotics programs.
• Own prototype and test labs, machine shop, and 3D print lab, including layout, capacity, housekeeping, safe operation, space planning, relocations, and equipment installations.
• Lead engineering technicians, fabrication specialists, machinists, and contract personnel, including onboarding, offboarding, agency management, workforce planning, scheduling, performance management, and capability development.
• Establish centralized intake and capacity planning across technician, fabrication, and additive manufacturing resources for System Test, Reliability Engineering, Hardware Engineering, and Test Automation.
• Deliver test hardware through the fabrication and build of rigs, fixtures, and test articles; make-versus-buy decisions and external machine-shop partner management are included.
• Own installation, commissioning, maintenance, calibration, safety, equipment integrity, audit-ready records, and annual operating and capital plans for laboratory operations.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of management experience and 8 years of total work experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical discipline; equivalent lab, shop, or test operations leadership experience may substitute for the degree.
• Experience owning an engineering lab, test facility, prototype lab, machine shop, or fabrication operation, including equipment, facilities, and operational performance.
• Experience directly managing technicians, machinists, fabrication specialists, or other skilled technical personnel, including scheduling, performance management, and capability development.
• Experience leading a workforce of full-time employees and contract labor, including agency coordination, onboarding, retention, and knowledge continuity.
• Hands-on experience with test fixture and rig development, engineering drawings, GD&T, machining, welding, sheet metal fabrication, and additive manufacturing.
• Experience with test equipment installation, commissioning, maintenance, calibration programs, laboratory safety, and auditable equipment records.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to drive and/or fly to client locations and company headquarters.
