QA Lead (Test Automation)

Location: Hybrid, Matosinhos, Porto, Portugal; the role is based in the Porto office and involves collaboration with teams in the Netherlands.

What you will do

• Coordinate the Test Enablement backlog and plan and distribute work across Test Specialists based on priorities, capacity, and expertise.
• Monitor delivery progress, quality risks, dependencies, impediments, regression status, and automation coverage, escalating issues when required.
• Provide technical guidance and coaching on software testing, quality engineering, and test automation.
• Collaborate with Product Owners, QA Engineers, delivery teams, and stakeholders across Porto and the Netherlands.
• Drive reusable test automation, quality controls, CI/CD quality practices, knowledge sharing, and consistent technical standards.
• Improve tooling, test data, environments, and reporting, while contributing hands-on to complex testing and automation activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional level in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT, or another relevant technical field.
• At least 5 years of experience designing and maintaining automated test solutions.
• Experience with software testing and test automation, including test design, test execution, and maintenance of automated tests.
• Experience with reusable, compliant test data and test environment management.
• Hands-on experience with API testing tools such as Postman or similar tooling.
• Hands-on experience with front-end test automation tools such as Selenium, Playwright, FitNesse, or comparable solutions.
• Experience with Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and automated quality controls.
• Experience with Agile ways of working such as Scrum, Kanban, and/or SAFe.
• Ability to apply risk-based testing and clearly communicate quality risks and test results; excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

Nice to have

• Experience with performance, load, and stress testing; JMeter experience is strongly preferred.
• Experience with reusable, compliant test data and test environment management.
• Knowledge of risk-based testing and structured methods such as ISTQB and/or TMap.
• Experience within financial services, fintech, or other regulated environments.
