Senior QA Engineer (Java)

Location: Hybrid in Porto or Lisbon, Portugal

What you will do

• Develop and maintain automated backend tests for REST APIs and microservices using Java-based tools.
• Read Java backend code, understand Spring Boot structures, and debug application logs.
• Perform database testing, verify data migrations, and validate heavy data-processing and batch executions.
• Use test management tools and CI/CD pipelines to trigger automated test suites.
• Collaborate in an Agile, cross-border and multicultural environment to improve data quality and system reliability.

Requirements

• Degree in Technology, Computer Engineering, or a similar field; equivalent experience will be considered.
• 6+ years of professional Quality Assurance experience with a strong focus on backend testing and test automation.
• Solid experience automating backend tests with Java-based tools such as REST Assured, JUnit, TestNG, or Cucumber to validate REST APIs and microservices.
• Strong knowledge of Java 17 or 21 backend architecture, including the ability to read developer code, understand Spring Boot structures, and debug application logs.
• Excellent SQL skills, including Oracle or PostgreSQL, for database testing, data migration verification, and validation of heavy data-processing or batch executions.
• Hands-on experience with test management tools such as Xray or Zephyr and CI/CD pipelines such as Jenkins or GitLab CI.
• Fluent English at a mandatory minimum B2/C1 level.
• Strong knowledge of Agile methodologies, including Scrum or Kanban, and Jira.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, a rigorous detail-oriented approach, strong communication skills, collaborative ability, proactive initiative, and a quality-oriented team-player mindset.

Nice to have

• Experience testing or validating asynchronous architectures, messaging queues such as Kafka or RabbitMQ, or Spring Batch processes.
• French language skills.
