HR/HSE Coordinator (Manufacturing)

What you will do

• Coordinate recruitment, onboarding, offboarding, employee records, HRIS updates, payroll support, benefits administration, performance reviews, training, and employee relations documentation.
• Coordinate Canadian payroll activities, including employee changes, source deductions, remittances, Records of Employment, and related documentation.
• Administer the health and safety management system under Alberta legislation and deliver orientations for employees, contractors, and visitors.
• Conduct workplace inspections, hazard assessments, job safety analyses, incident investigations, root cause analysis, corrective-action tracking, and safety audits.
• Manage WCB Alberta claims, return-to-work and modified duties, safety training records, WHMIS, First Aid, equipment training, SDS, PPE, respiratory protection, and fit testing.
• Coordinate HR and HSE policies, environmental compliance, emergency response activities, Joint Health and Safety Committee support, contractor safety pre-qualification, and communication between operations, supervisors, and management.

Requirements

• Diploma or degree in Human Resources, Occupational Health and Safety, Business Administration, or a related field.
• 3+ years of combined experience in HR and HSE coordination.
• Working knowledge of Alberta Employment Standards, the Alberta OHS Act, Regulation and Code, and WCB processes.
• Experience in a manufacturing, industrial coatings, or similar environment with hands-on safety exposure.
• Valid First Aid/CPR and WHMIS certifications.
• Experience with HRIS systems and strong Microsoft Office skills.
• Hands-on experience running Canadian payroll in-house, including source deductions, remittances, ROEs, and T4s.
• Excellent organization, attention to detail, discretion with confidential information, and strong communication skills.
• Ability to coach on safety, build trust with employees at all levels, manage multiple priorities, work independently, collaborate across the company, and maintain a proactive, solution-oriented approach.

Nice to have

• CPHR designation or progress toward one.
• NCSO or CRSP designation.
• Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification from the National Payroll Institute.
