Sr AI Engineer

Location: Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; Flex Work with at least 50% of each quarter spent in the office or in the field with customers, prospects, and partners, depending on the role.

Annual base salary: CAD 169,000–253,000 for the primary and additional Canadian locations. The role may also include a bonus or commission plan and annual refresh stock grants.

What you will do

• Lead end-to-end system design, architectural frameworks, and product integration for next-generation intelligent agents.
• Design, experiment with, and orchestrate complex agentic workflows that connect foundational AI models to enterprise products.
• Architect robust application layers around AI models, including predictable behavior, error handling, and seamless user experience integration.
• Integrate AI capabilities into production-grade software handling sensitive HR and financial data at global scale.
• Implement responsible and governed AI through privacy guardrails, security layers, evaluation mechanisms, predictability, and explainability.
• Lead cross-functional pods, mentor senior engineers, and guide products from concept through deployment.

Requirements

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience with deep expertise in distributed systems, cloud computing, and API design, plus 2+ years building production-grade LLM or agentic systems; OR 7+ years in Machine Learning Engineering or AI application development, with 3+ years shipping LLM-backed products.
• 3+ years of hands-on experience integrating LLMs, foundation models, and modern AI APIs into user-facing enterprise products.
• 2+ years designing and scaling complex AI orchestration architectures, including multi-agent frameworks, routing layers, and advanced RAG pipelines.
• 6+ years optimizing application performance, including API latency and user interaction design, with 2+ years addressing LLM constraints such as token management, cost optimization, and context-window efficiency.
• 6+ years using cloud computing platforms such as AWS or GCP to deploy highly responsive, scalable systems.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or an equivalent technical field.
• Deep understanding of governance, guardrails, security layers, and evaluation mechanisms for autonomous agents operating on sensitive enterprise HR and financial data.
• Proven technical leadership of cross-functional pods, senior-engineer mentoring, and product development from abstract concept to deployment.
• Expert-level system design and integration skills, rapid prototyping, model-output benchmarking, continuous experimentation, product-focused AI thinking, and the ability to turn open-ended goals into scalable engineering solutions.

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or an equivalent technical field.
