Senior NLP Engineer (AI)

Location: Toronto, Canada; hybrid role with 1 day per week in the Toronto office

Salary: $170,000–$230,000 CAD per year, depending on experience

What you will do

• Develop NLP and AI-powered communication assistance and risk-detection features using transformer models and LLMs.
• Design, train, fine-tune, evaluate, and productionize NLP models in partnership with research scientists, MLOps, and engineering.
• Design, develop, maintain, and test databases, data models, and database management systems supporting NLP pipelines.
• Define data administration policies, standards, models, and a strategic database deployment blueprint.
• Monitor production models and data systems, identify infrastructure improvements, and implement practical changes on AWS or GCP.
• Advise product and engineering teams, explain model behavior to clients, document technical findings, and mentor engineers through Git workflows and code review.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in computer engineering, computer science, computational linguistics, machine learning, or a related field.
• At least 5 years of experience building NLP, data science, or machine learning systems, including production deployments.
• Hands-on experience with transformer models, LLMs, fine-tuning, retrieval-augmented generation, embedding-based search, text classification, entity recognition, and relationship extraction.
• Experience building evaluation datasets and metrics, working with limited or imbalanced data, and explaining model behavior to non-specialists.
• Experience designing, developing, and testing databases, data models, and database management systems.
• Strong Python, working knowledge of C, C++, Go, Java, and JavaScript, and daily use of Git; professional English communication is required.
