Senior Mechanical Engineer, NPI

Location: South Jordan, Utah, United States; in-office 5 days per week. Relocation assistance is available.

What you will do

• Develop mechanical concepts and designs for new and existing consumer products, including mechanisms, drive systems, sheet metal, injection-molded plastic housings, and components.
• Integrate mechanical and electrical subsystems while meeting industrial design, marketing, customer, cost, and schedule requirements.
• Manage multiple design projects, develop part and product schedules, estimate costs, and work independently with minimal direction.
• Lead design reviews, generate design specifications and drawings, perform functionality and reliability testing, and update designs as required.
• Identify risks, conduct root-cause analysis and on/off testing, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
• Collaborate with marketing, sales, customer service, and external design and manufacturing partners to ensure manufacturability and smooth production ramps; mentor other engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and 5+ years of applicable experience.
• Experience designing consumer products similar to crafting machines, inkjet printers, electro-mechanical devices, or medical devices.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD; Creo is preferred, with SolidWorks or AutoCAD also acceptable, plus engineering analysis tools such as ANSYS or MATLAB.
• Interest in and aptitude for robotics, kinematics, dynamics, mechatronics, and mechanism design.
• Experience with injection-molded plastics design, tooling best practices, and process tuning.
• Strong understanding of mechanical systems, materials, and manufacturing processes; familiarity with sheet metal design and fabrication.
• Familiarity with rapid prototyping techniques and processes and proficiency in applying GD&T.
• Effective communication skills and the ability to work independently with minimal direction.

• Previous experience with ODMs.
