Director of Engineering (Sensor Detection Platform)

Location: Remote in the United States, based in Minnesota

Base salary: $195,000–$290,000 per year, with eligibility for bonuses, equity grants, health insurance, 401(k), and paid time off.

What you will do

• Own the multi-year strategy, architecture, and roadmap for on-sensor detection engines, template and pattern frameworks, process classification, and content delivery infrastructure.
• Lead and grow multiple teams of managers and senior engineers, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and succession planning.
• Own detection efficacy, endpoint CPU, memory, and I/O budgets, regression gates, and fleet health service-level objectives.
• Make detection content delivery safe through pre-release validation, staged channel-file deployments, rollback, exclusion management, and cross-platform testing.
• Drive on-sensor intelligence for process classification, AI and agentic workloads, and runtime foundations for on-sensor model inference.
• Partner with detection content engineering, the core sensor organization, Cloud Detection Platform, and product management while managing escalations, dependencies, operational excellence, and annual planning.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years managing engineering teams and 2+ years managing managers.
• Deep endpoint experience building and operating software on customer endpoints at scale, including EDR or endpoint security agents and OS internals across Windows, macOS, and Linux.
• Experience safely delivering software and content updates to very large distributed fleets.
• Accountability for strategic outcomes over one- to two-year horizons, beyond project delivery.
• Strong architectural judgment, including design reviews, efficacy-versus-footprint tradeoffs on constrained devices, and build, buy, or consolidation decisions.
• Experience managing operational excellence for customer-facing systems, including incident response, release safety, fleet health monitoring, and escalation management.
• Ability to lead through ambiguity, organizational change, competing priorities, and cross-team dependencies.
• Excellent communication skills with executives, peers, and engineers.
• Proven experience using AI technologies to enhance decision-making, streamline workflows and processes, improve efficiency, and drive business outcomes.

Nice to have

• Experience in detection engineering, malware analysis, or threat intelligence, including adversarial evaluation programs such as MITRE ATT&CK evaluations.
• Experience with detection-as-code, content management systems, or rule and template authoring platforms.
• Experience with on-device machine learning, including model runtimes, inference on heterogeneous hardware, or resource-constrained model deployment.
• Experience integrating AI-assisted or agentic workflows into engineering practice.
