Staff Product Design Engineer (Tapestry)

Location: Mountain View, CA (HQ) or San Francisco, CA; flexible hybrid work model.

US base salary: $215,000–$277,000 per year, plus bonus, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Set design direction for complex and ambiguous product areas, translating user and business needs into simple solutions for AI-driven products.
• Lead end-to-end product design from strategy through execution, including interaction design, visual design, and shipped quality.
• Prototype directly in React to explore concepts, validate interactions, and accelerate production development.
• Partner with product, engineering, research, industry, and ML experts to shape product direction and align cross-functional teams.
• Champion user-centered design practices and raise design quality across teams.
• Build and evolve a production design system with scalable components and patterns.

Requirements

• 8+ years of product design experience with a strong portfolio of shipped products and demonstrated impact at scale.
• Strong interaction and visual design execution with exceptional attention to detail and craft.
• Experience leading complex, ambiguous product areas and influencing direction across functions and teams.
• Experience in both enterprise and startup environments, combining systems thinking with the ability to move quickly.
• Strong React prototyping skills and fluency with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript/TypeScript.
• Experience contributing to production code and partnering closely with engineers during implementation.
• Experience building, maintaining, and evolving a production design system.
• Comfort with technical abstraction, systems thinking, and complex conceptual models.

Nice to have

• Experience designing simulation, modeling, or developer tools for expert or highly technical users.
• Experience with data-intensive, geospatial, or visualization products.
• Experience designing AI-powered products or features beyond chat interfaces.
