Senior Applied Machine Learning Engineer (AI/ML)

Location: Hybrid, with an average requirement of 2 days per week from an HPE office in Durham, North Carolina, or Atlanta, Georgia, United States.

Annual base salary: USD 141,000–325,000 in Georgia and North Carolina. Variable incentives may also be offered.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and deploy machine learning models and AI solutions for real-world customer problems, focusing on usability, scalability, and performance.
• Rapidly build demos, proofs of concept, MVPs, and workflows that demonstrate emerging AI/ML capabilities and support product improvements.
• Develop and improve integrations of open-source ML/AI tools including MLflow, Spark, LangChain, and Kubeflow in production environments on platforms such as Kubernetes.
• Fine-tune models and algorithms, including deep learning technologies, for accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.
• Translate customer requirements and industry trends into AI/ML solutions that improve product features, data management, and system performance.
• Collaborate with product managers, data scientists, and engineering teams; document best practices, lead emerging AI tool integrations, mentor junior team members, and communicate progress to leadership.

Requirements

• PhD with at least 2 years of relevant industry experience, or an equivalent qualification such as a Master’s degree with 4+ years or a Bachelor’s degree with 6+ years.
• Extensive hands-on experience applying machine learning and AI solutions in customer-facing or end-user environments.
• Proven experience deploying models in production while ensuring reliability and performance.
• Experience with open-source ML/AI tools and frameworks.
• Experience with backend programming languages including Python and Go.
• Proficiency in developing, using, and maintaining AI agents, including coding agents for automation or decision-making tasks.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially for asynchronous collaboration.
