Software Engineer, Integrations (HRIS/API)

Location: Remote within commuting distance of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; additional listed remote locations include the Greater Seattle, San Francisco Bay Area, New York Metro, and the United States. Candidates must be based in Calgary and legally authorized to work in Alberta without additional visa support.

Salary: $125,000–$148,000 CAD per year in Canada; $140,000–$160,000 USD per year in the United States.

What you will do

• Build, maintain, and manage scalable, reliable, and secure integration platforms and data flows.
• Design and optimize workflows, connectors, APIs, and data ingestion across HRIS, ATS, payroll, and other systems.
• Handle authentication, pagination, rate limits, schema drift, partial failures, retries, monitoring, and synchronization performance.
• Improve customer-facing error feedback so customers and Customer Success can resolve integration issues without engineering support.
• Collaborate with Forward Deployed Engineering, Implementation, Customer Success, and technical teams to expand platform capabilities.
• Establish integration patterns, documentation, governance standards, and error-handling conventions across Go, Temporal, Python, and frontend systems.

Requirements

• 4+ years of experience building and shipping production software with solid backend fundamentals; Python and/or Go preferred.
• Hands-on experience building or maintaining third-party API integrations, including REST/SOAP, webhooks, OAuth, API-key authentication, pagination, rate limiting, and upstream schema changes.
• Experience with data pipelines and orchestration, including scheduling, retries, sequencing, and workflow monitoring across systems.
• Solid SQL skills and the ability to reason about data models and transformations.
• Familiarity with HRIS, ATS, CRM, or ERP systems and their data models.
• Strong documentation habits and a focus on making technical work understandable to others.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills across technical and non-technical teams, including direct work with Customer Success and Implementation.
• Experience working with sensitive data and treating security, privacy, and compliance as part of the engineering role.
• Ability to work remotely and be based in Calgary with legal authorization to work in Alberta without current or future additional visa support.

Nice to have

• Frontend experience with TypeScript, React, or an equivalent technology.
• Experience with iPaaS tools such as Workato, Boomi, MuleSoft, Tray.io, or Celigo, and a perspective on when to build versus buy integrations.
• Experience with workflow orchestration engines such as Temporal or Airflow.
• Experience with file-based ingestion at scale, including SFTP, CSV, flat-file pipelines, and validation.
• Experience handling sensitive employee or compensation data and applying related security and privacy practices.
