Firmware/Software Engineer, Advanced (Embedded Systems)

Location: Hybrid, on-site at the corporate office in Lincolnshire, Illinois, for a minimum of 3 days per week; United States

Salary: $122,800–$184,200 annual base pay; performance-based annual cash incentive targeted at 12% of base pay

What you will do

• Establish, implement, and maintain embedded firmware for thermal printer products and solutions.
• Research, design, and develop platform technologies, programs, tools, and solutions supporting organizational strategy.
• Architect and complete highly complex firmware projects, including requirements definition, implementation, inspections, upgrades, patches, and new code.
• Develop testing and troubleshooting strategies, review test results and root cause analyses, and resolve complex technical issues.
• Drive code reviews and technical and quality improvements while documenting new ideas and methodologies for software teams.
• Provide technical leadership, coordinate personnel when needed, and collaborate with engineering disciplines, program management, management, and senior customers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering field, with 8+ years of relevant experience.
• Significant experience delivering platform-product embedded firmware development.
• Proven programming experience in C and C++.
• Experience with ARM architecture, embedded microcontroller architecture, multi-core systems, RTOS, embedded Linux, filesystems, storage memory, networking, and platform libraries.
• Skills in platform architecture, object-oriented programming, software design patterns, and device-driver development.

Nice to have

• Development experience with I2C, SPI, UART, USB, CAN, Modbus, WLAN, PWM, ADC, Bluetooth, Ethernet, and other microcontroller peripherals.
• Knowledge of oscilloscopes, bus analyzers, emulators, and other firmware debugging tools.
• Familiarity with electrical interfaces, schematic diagrams, electronic component specifications, and datasheets.
• Understanding of embedded RTOS and POSIX implementation, including scheduling policies, synchronization methods, interrupt service routines, external library integration, filesystems, and memory allocation.
• Experience with stepper motors, networking, MQTT, and security.
• Participation in Agile development processes, including Scrum or Kanban.
• Experience with prototype board bring-up, bootloader development, or the ARMCC toolchain.
