Manager, Electrical Engineering (Automation)

Location: Richmond, VA, US; onsite role with domestic and international travel as needed.

What you will do

• Lead hardware and software design for local developments, R&D projects, series equipment, machine refurbishments, and electrical obsolescence solutions.
• Provide technical direction, oversee design reviews, organize testing, and manage technical clarification activities, audits, processes, and schedules.
• Lead and develop a diverse technical team of electrical designers, programmers, and technical clarification personnel, including capacity planning, workload management, assignments, priorities, and training.
• Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, feasibility studies, prototyping, full development projects, quotations, labor estimates, and parts cost estimates.
• Collaborate with customers, global headquarters, R&D, engineering, Sales, Project Management, Production, Service, Purchasing, and other internal and external stakeholders.
• Support customer projects, installations, commissioning activities, and other business requirements through domestic and international travel.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
• Seven or more years of experience in high-speed automation design and development.
• Hands-on engineering experience with panel design and automation programming.
• Experience managing engineering teams and technical projects, supporting personnel development, and enabling employee growth.
• Strong knowledge of electrical hardware design, panel design, automation programming, and related engineering disciplines.
• Ability to lead engineering teams, provide technical direction on complex projects, evaluate technical needs, and develop practical, creative solutions.
• Strong project management, organizational, capacity planning, workload management, prioritization, problem-solving, and communication skills, including presenting to customers and senior management.
• Ability to work effectively in collaborative, cross-functional, and international environments.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, SAP, and Microsoft Project; experience with agile management methodologies such as Scrum.
• Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally as business needs require.

Nice to have

• Experience with Siemens, AMK, Beckhoff, ELCAD, and EPLAN.
• Working knowledge of German.
