Sr. Dir, Biology-Discovery (Immunology)

Location: Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States of America; onsite, full time. Domestic relocation is indicated, and visa sponsorship is available.

Salary: $194,100–$305,600 per year, plus annual bonus and long-term incentive eligibility where applicable.

What you will do

• Lead and mentor a translational and biomarker research team, set scientific direction, prioritize portfolio opportunities, and develop talent.
• Drive translational research across in vitro systems, ex vivo patient-sample studies, and animal models, linking mechanism of action, disease biology, PK/PD, and clinical endpoints.
• Oversee translational experimental plans, analysis strategies, and forward- and reverse-translational studies for first-in-human and proof-of-concept readiness.
• Implement biomarker strategies across preclinical and clinical settings with Discovery, Non-Clinical Drug Safety, Translational Medicine, and Data Science teams.
• Advance emerging technologies, platforms, and modalities including small molecules, peptides, biologics, and T-cell engagers.
• Manage academic and CRO partnerships, engage investigators and key opinion leaders, and oversee abstracts, presentations, and manuscripts.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree with 20+ years, Master’s degree with 18+ years, or Ph.D. with 10+ years in Immunology, Cell Biology, or a related field, including relevant immunology research experience and at least seven years of direct industry experience.
• Experience with immune-mediated diseases, molecular disease pathways, clinical trial results, and the competitive landscape in immunology and autoinflammation.
• Experience designing and executing translational research strategies in immune diseases, including coordination of data generation and interpretation with computational scientists and other functions.
• Experience in discovery research and drug development in immunology, focused on autoimmune and inflammatory diseases.
• Experience developing clinically relevant biomarkers for target engagement and pharmacodynamic measures.
• At least five years of direct management experience overseeing multiple teams, with demonstrated ability to align, motivate, empower, and develop team members.
• Strong awareness of safety and environmental requirements.
• Understanding of pharmaceutical development integration and partnering across Translational Medicine, Clinical, CMC, Regulatory, Operations, and related functions.
• Effective communication, collaboration, and negotiation skills with senior managers and cross-functional representatives.
