Design Release Engineer - Bumper, Grille, Fascia, and Exterior Trim

Location: Warren, Michigan, United States; hybrid work with on-site attendance at the Warren Tech Center at least three days per week, or as determined by the hiring leader. Travel required up to 25%. The role is not eligible for relocation assistance, and relocation costs are the candidate's responsibility.

What you will do

• Design, engineer, and release bumper, grille, fascia, and exterior trim subsystems and directed-buy components such as sensors, cameras, harnesses, and lamps.
• Support or lead cross-functional Product Development Teams involving suppliers, designers, engineering, validation, manufacturing, quality, CAE, dimensional, and purchasing functions.
• Develop in-house designs and criteria or typical sections using Unigraphics math data, collaborating with the studio on surface development.
• Balance cost, timing, mass, warranty, and other subsystem imperatives while preparing design studies, alternatives, and business cases.
• Build Interface Control Document requirements, support design and technical reviews, and ensure design fidelity and best practices.
• Support BGFT launch activities with assembly plants and cross-functional personnel to resolve issues.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering.
• At least 2 years of experience as a Design Release Engineer or relevant industry experience.
• Ability to communicate information to and from internal and external customer organizations.
• Experience executing vehicle development cycles from concept through production launch.
• Program management skills.
• Physics-based problem-solving skills.
• Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle regularly.

Nice to have

• Green Belt DFSS certification.
• Familiarity with Design for Manufacturing.
• Plastic injection molding design knowledge.
• Stamping and metal forming design knowledge.
• Fixture design and product validation knowledge.
• Experience with DFMEA and GD&T.
• Budget management experience.
