R&D Senior Engineer Software

Location: San Jose, California, United States; in-person position.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and deliver software and firmware for ultra-high-performance datacenter-scale solutions.
• Own designs across ZephyrOS/OpenBMC firmware, microcode, device drivers, embedded Linux/Yocto builds, and upper-level control software.
• Support the full product lifecycle, including customer trials, field issue resolution, product sustainability, validation, and automation.
• Perform silicon, chip, board, and full-system bring-up, driver development, and low-level debugging.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary engineering and partner engineering teams.
• Work with Sales, Marketing, Purchasing, Manufacturing, Customer Support, Compliance, Safety, and Sustainability groups.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in engineering and 5+ years of related experience.
• Background developing software in C++ and C for large-scale, complex multi-processor architectures, including x86 and ARM, from low-level firmware through rack management control software.
• Experience with Linux/Yocto, OpenBMC, and/or ZephyrOS.
• Deep expertise in early-stage development, including silicon, chip, board, and full-system bring-up, plus driver development and low-level or silicon debugging.
• Hands-on experience with I2C, PMBus, AVSbus, MDIO, PCIe, SPI, USB, and SERDES.
• Strong knowledge of Redfish and DMTF standards, including MCTP, PLDM, and SPDM.
• Experience implementing Secure Boot, u-boot, and Secure Root of Trust, with familiarity with architectures such as Calyptra.
• Baseline knowledge of datacenter networking, switching, and NIC architectures.
• Expertise with debugging tools, testing techniques, system-level validation, and automation.
• Demonstrated lifecycle ownership of complex products from product inception through volume production.
