Senior Associate Packaging Engineer

Location: New York, NY, with in-office work Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Base salary: $90,000–$114,000 annually.

What you will do

• Research packaging sustainability, innovation, and trends and develop packaging components for new product launches, retail exclusives, promotions, partnerships, and operational initiatives.
• Own workstreams to qualify packaging components, tooling, equipment, and processes from concept through mass production.
• Create and maintain packaging specifications, finished goods specifications, assembly instructions, 2D engineering drawings, 3D CAD models, and prototypes.
• Partner with suppliers, contract manufacturers, testing laboratories, and cross-functional teams on design for manufacturing, testing plans, production release, and packaging line trials.
• Troubleshoot technical packaging issues, develop risk mitigation plans and alternatives, and drive packaging engineering design reviews.
• Support graphics, decoration testing, artwork approval, color standards, and production color ranges.

Requirements

• Degree or equivalent experience in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience designing, testing, and developing new packaging using varied manufacturing processes and materials.
• Knowledge of material properties and packaging components including pumps, closures, bottles, tubes, aerosols, folding cartons, gift sets, flexible films, and laminations.
• Experience with packaging decorating techniques and materials for primary and secondary packaging, with a strong eye for design and aesthetics.
• Experience creating 2D engineering drawings defining critical-to-quality dimensions, including tolerance analysis and statistical analysis.
• Ability to articulate and defend technical packaging decisions and communicate clearly with cross-functional teams.
• Extremely organized, dependable, and self-motivated, with the ability to work effectively in a hands-on, fast-paced environment.
• Curiosity, willingness to learn, and comfort acknowledging knowledge gaps.

Nice to have

• Experience with a 3D MCAD package such as Artios or SolidWorks.
• Experience with TOPS Packaging design software.
• Familiarity with Kongsberg cutting tables.
