Senior Associate Packaging Engineer (Packaging Engineering)

Location: New York, NY; hybrid working model with in-office work on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Base salary: $90,000–$114,000 annually.

What you will do

• Research packaging sustainability, innovation, and trends and develop packaging components for new product introductions, retail exclusives, promotions, partnerships, and operational initiatives.
• Own workstreams to qualify packaging components, tooling, equipment, and processes, including specifications, 3D CAD models, 3D prints, engineering drawings, prototype tools, samples, and component structures.
• Collaborate with suppliers and technical partners on design for manufacturing, testing plans, production release, packaging design reviews, and packaging line trials.
• Troubleshoot technical packaging issues, develop risk mitigation plans and alternatives, and maintain component, finished-goods, and assembly specifications.
• Work with Production Artists on color standards, production color ranges, graphics, decorating tests, and artwork approval.
• Maintain relationships with suppliers, contract manufacturers, testing labs, printing and decorating suppliers, and internal cross-functional teams.

Requirements

• Degree or equivalent experience in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field; a BS in Package Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or another related discipline is required.
• 3+ years of experience designing, testing, and developing new packaging using various component manufacturing processes and materials.
• Knowledge of material properties and packaging components including pumps, closures, bottles, tubes, aerosols, folding cartons, gift sets, flexible films, and laminations.
• Experience with design aesthetics, decorating techniques, and materials used on primary and secondary packaging.
• Ability to articulate and defend technical packaging decisions and communicate clearly with cross-functional teams.
• Experience creating 2D engineering drawings defining critical-to-quality dimensions and using tolerance analysis and statistical analysis.
• Experience with one 3D MCAD package, such as Artios or SolidWorks.
• Strong organization, dependability, self-motivation, and ability to work effectively in a hands-on, fast-paced environment.
• Willingness to learn, acknowledge knowledge gaps, and work collaboratively with internal and external partners.

Nice to have

• Experience with TOPS Packaging design software.
• Familiarity with Kongsberg cutting tables.
• Sense of humor and ability to take work seriously without taking oneself too seriously.
