Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, Avionics Integration

Location: Huntington Beach, California, United States. Onsite work with availability for extended hours and weekends when required.

Salary: $140,000–$180,000 USD per year in base compensation, plus performance incentives, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Design avionics and PCBA mounting architectures, electronics enclosures, fixtures, and tooling using 3D CAD and detailed engineering drawings.
• Develop electro-mechanical integration solutions for wire harnesses, connectors, grounding, shielding, EMI/EMC mitigation, thermal management, and serviceability.
• Collaborate with electrical, firmware, systems, manufacturing, and test teams on ECAD/MCAD data exchange, schematics, layouts, and ICD documentation.
• Plan and execute environmental qualification testing, including vibration, shock, thermal cycling, ingress protection, and EMI/EMC testing.
• Own hardware development from concept through bring-up, qualification, technical documentation, and engineering milestone reviews.
• Support critical development and test milestones, including occasional extended hours and weekends.

Requirements

• 6+ years of mechanical engineering experience focused on avionics integration, electronics packaging, or wire harness design.
• Strong experience with 3D CAD tools such as NX or SolidWorks and detailed drawings with GD&T according to ASME Y14.5.
• Hands-on experience with enclosure design, wire harness routing and integration, and EMI/EMC mitigation.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Demonstrated ownership of end-to-end hardware development and integration efforts.
• Applicants must be U.S. citizens or nationals, lawful permanent residents, refugees, asylees, or otherwise eligible for required U.S. export authorizations under ITAR.

Nice to have

• Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience with avionics environmental acceptance and qualification testing.
• Knowledge of electronics thermal management, PCBA structural response, FEA, vibration response, and Steinberg-type fatigue assessment.
• Experience designing and releasing wire harnesses, including connector selection, strain relief, shielding termination, grounding, and maintainability.
• Knowledge of aerospace or defense standards for avionics integration.
