Director, Growth Engineering (AI/ML)

Location: San Francisco, CA, USA; hybrid in-office policy with four days per week in the office and Fridays from home for employees near an office.

Base salary: $269,000–$373,000 USD annually, plus potential bonuses, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead the Growth Platform organization of tech lead managers and senior engineers across Web, Paid, Notifications, Incentives, Targeting, Experimentation, and Personalization.
• Set the multi-year vision and roadmap, unifying seven systems through shared member data, decisioning, and measurement.
• Make the platform AI-native by applying ML and GenAI to targeting, bidding, content, incentives, send-time optimization, and agentic experimentation workflows.
• Build self-learning experiment agents that generate hypotheses, launch and monitor tests, interpret results, and inform subsequent experiments, with evaluation, guardrails, and human oversight.
• Partner with Product, Marketing, Data Science/ML, Analytics, Risk, Compliance, and Privacy to connect platform investments to growth metrics and maintain reliability, cost efficiency, compliance, consent, fairness, and member trust.
• Hire, coach, and develop tech lead managers while helping Growth teams launch, target, personalize, and measure changes faster.

Requirements

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years leading teams and at least 2 years leading tech lead managers or other leaders.
• Experience building growth or marketing platforms relied on by many teams, including areas such as experimentation, targeting, messaging, incentives or rewards, paid attribution, or personalization.
• Hands-on experience shipping ML-powered systems for real-time product decisions, such as ranking, propensity or uplift models, bandits, or similar systems.
• Production experience building LLM-based agents or agentic workflows, including practical evaluation, governance, and scaling.
• Deep experimentation and measurement expertise, including proving that lifts are real and keeping high-volume tests trustworthy.
• Strong judgment in distributed systems and data architecture, including real-time event pipelines, feature stores, low-latency decisioning, and high-volume messaging.
• Clear executive communication and a history of earning buy-in across Product, Marketing, and Data Science.

Nice to have

• Experience in fintech or another regulated industry.
• Experience with paid acquisition or mobile measurement.
• Experience leading a large platform migration.
