Director of Engineering (AI/LLM)

Location: Hybrid in Menlo Park, California, or Bellevue, Washington, United States

Salary: $264K–$379.5K annually

Snowflake provides a data platform and is expanding AI Functions that embed AI and LLM-powered capabilities directly into SQL workflows.

What you will do

• Own architecture and design, influence the product roadmap, and identify initiatives that advance Snowflake technology.
• Set the team’s strategic vision and drive accountability for plans and deliverables.
• Build and scale AI-powered functions for structured and unstructured data processing through SQL.
• Lead projects from ideation through implementation with cross-functional partners.
• Evolve organizational structure and improve engineering efficiency.
• Hire, develop, manage, and mentor senior technical leaders and engineering teams.

Requirements

• Advanced degree in Computer Science.
• 10+ years of software engineering experience, including recent hands-on work.
• 2+ years of engineering director experience, including managing managers.
• Deep experience with AI infrastructure and LLMs.
• Experience building large-scale query processing systems or distributed systems.
• Strong record of recruiting and developing technical teams, with excellent cross-functional communication skills.
