Pre-Construction Manager (Construction)

Location: Based at the Solihull office, covering the Central region, with visits to proposed and live construction sites.

What you will do

• Lead and manage the pre-construction process for construction projects, predominantly in the education sector, from tender stage to main contract award.
• Review tender information, develop bid strategies, and take ownership of bid submissions, including coordinating, writing, reviewing content, and identifying differentiators.
• Manage bid managers and writers, establish tender programmes and resource schedules, coordinate governance, and monitor progress.
• Lead internal and external tender meetings and engage clients, designers, consultants, and supply-chain partners.
• Visit proposed and live construction sites to assess constraints, construction performance, and factors affecting future tenders.
• Develop construction strategies, designs, and methodologies; prepare tender-interview presentations and manage second-stage tenders through contract award.

Requirements

• Ability to lead the pre-construction team and coordinate design, commercial, planning, and construction disciplines to support profitability.
• Good understanding of how to positively influence health and safety during tenders.
• Excellent communication skills with clients and consultants, with the ability to align offers and add value to projects.
• Ability to gain the confidence of parties involved in bid and project delivery teams.
• Confidence to challenge construction methodology and sequence, commercial, programme, and design aspects to ensure a best-value offer.
• Strong project and construction management skills.
• Strong analytical, organisational, commercial, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Experience collating and writing content for quality tender submissions.
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Office programmes, including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel; effective presentation skills.
• Degree qualification or equivalent and CIOB or equivalent.
• A DBS check is required for the position.
