Principal Software Engineer, Platform Engineering (Go)

Location: Hybrid in Denver, Colorado, USA, with 3 days on-site per week.

Base pay: $200,000–$230,000 annually, plus stock options and variable bonuses.

What you will do

• Own the platform foundation by assessing the existing code and architecture, defining a measurable technical roadmap, and sequencing work for incremental value.
• Write and ship critical-path refactors, performance improvements, and stability fixes for Go microservices running on AWS.
• Guide execution by setting technical direction and standards, unblocking complex problems, and leading rigorous design and code reviews.
• Establish scalable development practices covering testing, interfaces, service boundaries, and release discipline.
• Drive observability through metrics, structured logging, and tracing; use evidence to identify root causes.
• Document architecture decisions and build trust with an established engineering team through clear reasoning and code quality.

Requirements

• 12+ years of relevant experience as a founding, principal, or staff engineer.
• Experience building and operating a complex microservices platform in production, including explaining failures, causes, and remediation.
• Extensive distributed-systems experience, including concurrency, event-driven architectures, message buses, and failure modes.
• Experience taking over a complex codebase and measurably improving it.
• Continued hands-on contribution of production code every week.
• Product mindset and ownership of outcomes across the whole system.
• Ability to critique designs constructively, change direction based on data, prefer simple solutions, and provide and receive direct feedback.
• Commitment to customer-focused decisions, high agency, truth seeking, hard work, shipping excellence, and high quality standards.
• Full embrace of agentic AI and coding agents in everyday engineering work.

Nice to have

• Experience leading simplification or stabilization of an existing SaaS platform.
• Experience building or operating CI/CD systems, workflow engines, or developer platforms.
• Open-source contributions in Kubernetes, Tekton, NATS, Jenkins, or the broader DevOps ecosystem.
• Background in identity and access management, multi-tenancy, or regulated environments.
• Experience with LLM-powered features or MCP tooling in production backends.
