Manager, Engineering Tools & Infrastructure (Hardware Engineering)

Location: Boston office in Charlestown, Massachusetts; minimum 3 days per week in the office, with additional days as needed based on project demands.

Salary: $128,000–$135,000 per year in Massachusetts.

What you will do

• Own and administer the core engineering software suite, including Solidworks, PDM, Arena PLM, and Jira, for hardware R&D and manufacturing teams.
• Create and maintain custom workflows, automations, and templates based on team feedback and engineering best practices.
• Troubleshoot error messages, vault access issues, and software bugs for the mechanical engineering team.
• Enforce and improve documentation standards for file naming, revision control, and BOM management in the PLM system.
• Maintain and test software systems as new versions and features are released, ensuring compatibility with existing workflows and automations.
• Manage permissions, user onboarding and offboarding, software licenses, renewals, and vendor relationships with IT Procurement.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience administering CAD, PDM, and PLM software for an engineering team; Solidworks experience is strongly preferred.
• Proven experience configuring PLM systems such as Teamcenter, Arena, or Propel.
• Proven experience with Jira, including custom automations and workflows.
• Familiarity with all hardware product development lifecycle phases, from prototyping to production.
• Deep familiarity with mechanical design processes and terminology, including parts and assemblies, 3D and 2D CAD, and supporting documentation.
• Ability to reason about relationships between engineering items within PDM and PLM databases.
• Support-first mindset and ability to troubleshoot technical issues calmly under tight project deadlines.
• Ability to create how-to guides and training materials for engineers.
• Ability to translate ideal engineering workflows into real-world processes within relevant software products.

• Familiarity with Quality Management System implementation.
