Risk & Underwriting Specialist II (Payments)

Location: Remote within the United States; hiring for non-exempt roles in Arizona, Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, Texas, North Carolina, and Florida. Availability required Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., with flexibility to stay late as needed, including select holidays.

Salary: $23.13–$36.92 per hour.

What you will do

• Underwrite, onboard, monitor, maintain, and terminate merchant accounts in accordance with credit policies, industry rules, and regulatory standards.
• Monitor and process daily bank files and transaction records, maintaining accurate merchant data across internal platforms and acquirer systems.
• Validate new and existing customers, screen merchants against OFAC Sanctions Lists, and support acquirer-portal onboarding and monitoring.
• Process merchant account changes, including fee adjustments, distribution settings, and contact updates.
• Perform quality assurance audits, support internal and external audits, card brand reporting, and compliance checks.
• Respond to merchant inquiries within defined service levels, collaborate with team members, support special projects, and recommend process improvements.

Requirements

• 2–4 years of experience in Accounting, Banking, or the Payments industry.
• Familiarity with underwriting practices and risk management in payment processing.
• Strong analytical and decision-making abilities, attention to detail, organizational skills, and time management in a deadline-driven environment.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills and professional interaction with internal and external stakeholders.
• Ability to follow and contribute to documented procedures and policies, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage workload efficiently in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to use company-approved GenAI tools, audit AI outputs for accuracy and hallucinations, protect proprietary and personally identifiable information, and create clear, context-rich prompts.

Nice to have

• Underwriting experience focused on payment processing, including domestic and international accounts.
• College coursework or a degree in a related field.
