Lead Backend Engineer (Go)

Location: Amsterdam, Netherlands. Hybrid work with 2 recommended office days per week; remote work is available under the stated EU and global workation limits.

Salary: €93,500–€126,500 gross annually, excluding 8% holiday pay.

What you will do

• Lead the technical direction and architectural vision for VITA, hirify.global’s platform for alerts, on-call routing, incident management, and SLOs.
• Scope complex problems, design solutions, coordinate delivery across teams, and shape the roadmap through technical discovery with engineering stakeholders and directors.
• Own incident management and on-call processes, improve the supporting tooling, and eliminate alert fatigue by establishing actionable alert standards.
• Design event pipelines that enable an AI incident agent to suggest root causes during live production outages.
• Define and track product and process metrics, including standards for SLOs and alerts.
• Mentor a team of five engineers through system design reviews, collaborative RFCs, and improved engineering discipline.

Requirements

• Proven experience architecting, building, and operating high-scale distributed systems in production.
• Experience owning distributed systems from design through operation.
• Strong background in Go, Java, Rust, Python, C++, or a similar technology.
• Experience participating in on-call rotations and responding to production incidents, with willingness to continue doing so.
• Strong product mindset for developer tooling, including understanding engineers as users, identifying pain points, and measuring adoption and developer satisfaction.
• Understanding of observability concepts including metrics, logs, traces, and SLOs.
• Excellent written and spoken English.
• Strong technical communication and diplomacy, including explaining architectural risks to non-technical stakeholders and constructively challenging senior leaders with data and SLOs.
• Natural mentoring and collaboration skills, including breaking down complex technical problems and supporting the growth of newer engineers.

Nice to have

• Experience with incident management, on-call, or observability tooling.
• Experience working on a platform team serving other engineers.
• Experience building LLM-based tools or agents.
