Staff Software Engineer (AI)

Location: J Street Office Space AR Bentonville Home Office; Primary Location: 2608 SE J St, Bentonville, AR 72716-3724, United States of America.

Annual salary: $110,000–$220,000, plus performance-based bonuses and possible stock compensation.

What you will do

• Design, build, deploy, monitor, and maintain production software for the transportation platform.
• Deliver infrastructure, tooling, and machine learning frameworks aligned with roadmap priorities.
• Apply cloud-native architecture principles, including microservices, containers, and automation, to build scalable and resilient systems.
• Build AI-driven applications integrating machine learning components for automation and multi-step reasoning.
• Conduct system design reviews and software prototyping to validate technical feasibility, quality, and architectural alignment.
• Mentor engineers, influence technical decisions, collaborate with stakeholders, and improve engineering processes through data-driven practices.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or a related area and 4 years of experience in software engineering or a related area; or 6 years of experience in software engineering or a related area.
• Expertise in cloud-native architecture, including microservices, containers, and automation.
• Strong proficiency in Java and software design patterns for secure, maintainable, and modular solutions.
• Experience leading the full software development lifecycle, including coding, testing, CI/CD deployment, and system observability.
• Ability to conduct design reviews and software prototyping.
• Skills in API design and DevOps engineering.
• Ability to mentor engineers and influence architectural decisions.
• Data-driven decision-making skills for defining success metrics and optimizing engineering processes.

Nice to have

• Master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or a related area and 2 years of experience in software engineering or a related area.
• Experience creating inclusive digital experiences and implementing WCAG 2.2 AA standards.
• Knowledge of assistive technologies, digital accessibility best practices, and accessibility standards and guidelines.
