Staff Software Engineer (Backend & Data Engineering)

Location: Sunnyvale, California, United States; onsite at 1375 Crossman Ave

Salary: $143,000–$286,000 per year, plus performance-based bonuses and possible stock compensation

What you will do

• Deliver scalable platform capabilities, including infrastructure, tooling, and ML frameworks aligned with roadmap milestones and domain priorities.
• Apply cloud-native architecture principles to build scalable, resilient, and agile systems.
• Lead the full software development lifecycle, including coding, testing, CI/CD deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
• Conduct system design reviews and validate alignment with architectural best practices and project goals.
• Build AI-driven applications by integrating ML components and automation features using multiple programming languages.
• Mentor engineers, influence technical decisions, document solutions, and collaborate with Engineering, Product, Business, and Analytics partners.

Requirements

• Either a bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or a related area plus 4 years of software engineering experience, or 6 years of software engineering experience.
• 8–10 years of expertise in cloud-native architecture, including microservices, containers, data engineering, and automation for scalable and resilient systems.
• Strong proficiency in software design patterns, API design, and platform design and development.
• Experience leading full software development lifecycle activities, including coding, testing, CI/CD deployment, and maintenance.
• Ability to conduct system design reviews aligned with architectural best practices and project goals.
• Experience integrating AI/ML using languages such as Java and Python.
• Demonstrated leadership in mentoring engineers and influencing technical decisions.
• Data-driven problem-solving skills focused on engineering excellence and continuous improvement.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or a related area plus 2 years of software engineering experience.
• Experience creating inclusive digital experiences and implementing WCAG 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and digital accessibility best practices.
