Software Engineer, Embedded (Aerospace)

Location: Los Angeles, CA, USA; in-person collaboration at the Playa Vista office.

hirify.global is a fast-growing aerospace startup that manufactures satellite buses at scale using software, vertical integration, and manufacturing-focused hardware.

What you will do

• Design, develop, deploy, and operate mission-critical embedded software for satellite systems across the full software lifecycle.
• Develop low-level software for processor peripherals and communication interfaces on spacecraft avionics.
• Write and debug device drivers for sensors, actuators, and other satellite-bus components.
• Implement onboard algorithms, including closed-loop control and fault detection and response for failed sensors and radiation upsets.
• Collaborate with systems, hardware, test, and operations engineers to define requirements, technical roadmaps, and embedded hardware-software designs.

Requirements

• U.S. Person status is required, or the ability to obtain the export authorizations required to access export-controlled data under ITAR/EAR.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or an equivalent qualification, or equivalent professional experience.
• At least 2 years of experience writing C/C++ for embedded systems, ideally in spacecraft, robotics, automotive, or other hardware interacting with the physical world.
• Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++, or Rust.

Nice to have

• At least 1 year of flight software experience.
• Experience developing, testing, deploying, and troubleshooting mission-critical satellite software from prototyping through flight operations.
• Experience developing bare-metal or RTOS firmware for microcontrollers.
• Experience with hardware-software integration, including reading schematics and using oscilloscopes and logic analyzers for new-hardware bring-up.
• Understanding of microcontroller and microprocessor architecture, including memory, buses, and DMA.
• FPGA development experience.
• Experience bringing up new avionics or flight hardware from first power-on.
• Experience with satellite attitude control systems, including reaction wheels, magnetorquers, small thrusters, and related sensors.
• Experience driving motors and power electronics or reading feedback sensors such as encoders and current monitors.
